Information Literacy Course
Many students are using the Internet to do research for their project works and homework. When sourcing for information from the Net, students are taught to test the reliability and validity of the information and to distinguish between opinions and facts.
In view of these issues, PAVE Education has crafted an Information Literacy Course. The course was conducted successfully with Commonwealth Secondary and St Margaret’s Secondary School as part of the schools’ ICT skills curriculum. As Internet research is part and parcel of any student’s life, the benefits of the course will certainly be life long.
Course content
- Techniques on doing Internet research
- Honour intellectual property
- Verify the reliability of information sources
- Differentiate factual information, inferences and opinions
- Cite the information sources used in projects
- Write appropriate survey questions and conduct relevant surveys
- Conduct proper interviews
To find out more the Information Literacy Course conducted at St Margaret’s, read the article entitled “Netting Information the Right Way” published by The Computer Times on 7 May 2003.
